Why We Take Worship Outside: Finding God in the Fresh Air
We hold our 'Casting Away Our Worries' sessions outside on the deck in our Reflection Area instead of inside a classroom, and here’s why! When we go outside, we turn big, tricky feelings—like giving a worry to God—into something we can actually do. For example, when you physically throw a paper plane with your worry on it, watch a bubble float away, or toss a note into a bin, you are really, truly letting go of that worry. The huge sky and open space remind us that there is a place big enough to take all our troubles. The outdoors is also a great place to talk because it’s not too quiet and still like a classroom. The natural sounds, like the wind or birds, make us feel more relaxed and safer to share what’s on our minds. Plus, there’s no better spot to learn about God than right inside His amazing world! When we read about how God cares for the birds and flowers, we can see those things right in front of us. It shows us that the same God who looks after nature is looking after us, too. Finally, simply being outside with fresh air and open space helps our bodies and minds calm down, making it easier to think, pray, and feel peaceful before we even start to talk.
